How to install Logitech IO2 Digital Pen on Windows 8 64bit

I would bang my head how to make my digital pen to work again!

I tried several methods but apparently because the drivers are 32bit and my windows installation is 64bit, there is only one solution.

That I found it here: http://newbiewrench.blogspot.co.uk/2010/02/logitech-i02-digital-pen-and-windows-7.html

It was originally suggested for windows 7 but I just tried on windows 8 and it also works like a charm!

Logitech IO2 Digital Pen and Windows 7 can work together

Windows 7 allows running old XP devices in a XP virtual machine.   You can download MS' virtual pc with XP mode here.  The magic in getting this to work is to have your Logitech IO2 digital pen in the cradle and have the cradle plugged in to your Windows 7 usb port at the time you install the virtual machine and install XP from a XP CD.  After you do all the usual updating of XP w/in the virtual machine, you can download logitech's last (RIP) driver for the IO2 digital pen here.  Press the 'External Mirror 1' link to download.   Also, be sure to click the 'USB' down arrow in the upper left hand area.  You'll see 'Digital Pen' as one of the USB devices.  Click the gray area to the left of that entry to activate that USB device so that virtual XP can see it.   That one cost me much head banging.

Here's a screen shot of my I)2 pen uploading 5 pages to the virtual XP machine running on Win 7.

  1. I am using my Logitech IO pen on my Windows 10 personal, 64 bit system and it is working better than on Windows 7, Vista or even XP. First download Oracle VM virtual box (it's free) and install (it is surprisinly easy). You now need to create an XP system (I was lucky and simply exported mine fron the my Windows 7 32bit Virtualll box and simply inported to the W10 64bit VB). Otherwise find and old XP load disc and install it in VB. Again it was remarably simple. Then it is a matter of following the XP install instructions for the IO pen software (you can still download it from Logitech or use the original disc). You set up a shared folder with your W10 system (it treats XP VM system as another networked machine) and the results are available to both sysytems. Don't forget to load your handwriting data.

When you close Virtual Box effectively freezes XP as is, so Virtual Box will reload and start XP to carry on where you left off in 20 sec (much quicker then my old XP system). The only issues I have not solved so far is while XP is loaded it blocks the bluetooth mouse and you have to use the touchpad. But once you close VB it returns, I should be able to rectify this if I read the manual, havn't done so far.

If you have any other XP only systems you can run them in the same way and is much cheaper than Microsoft's solution for running XP on W10
